Forecasters say temperatures will be below freezing on Long Island for Saturday and Sunday

Forecasters said Long Island will experience a very cold, but mostly dry weekend with temperatures below zero expected on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday should see highs in the 1920s with wind chills between -5 and 15 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Winds are expected to remain calm throughout the day and evening.

The cooler temperatures should continue on Sunday with sunny skies, high temperatures just below freezing, and wind chills for teens.

Freezing temperatures Monday could rise into the highs of the 30s on Tuesday with a chance of a mix of rain and snow Tuesday afternoon and night when lows dip into the 20s.

The biting cold is set to continue through the week with lows into single digits on Wednesday and highs in the low 20s on Thursday.
