During the live series of the Tokyo Game Show, Noki Yoshida and Hironobo Sakaguchi talked about Final Fantasy XVI, which offers a little update on progress.
You will know Noki Yoshida as the director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV and the producer of XVI. Hironobu Sakaguchi is currently the head of Mistwalker (who recently released Fantasian), widely known as the father of the Final Fantasy series.
Sakaguchi San mentioned that he thinks Final Fantasy XVI is going to be a complete fantasy, and Yoshida San confirmed that the main scene is complete.
Additional questions are in progress and almost complete. Character models are also almost finished and the team needs to brush up a bit on quality.
Yoshida San continued, noting that the initial focus was on creating a central scenario with a small team. Although the total production period is quite long, the team size did not increase much until the projects were finalized. There was a lot of trial and error. Yoshida San believes it is important to start with a small team and then spread slowly.
Sakaguchi San (perhaps jokingly) offered to write a quest for the game, and Yoshida San mentioned that he could write for Final Fantasy XIV, but the father of Final Fantasy replied that he wanted Yasumi Matsuno (who gave it to him). 1 million flowers to start in XIV) and Yoko Taro.
Final Fantasy XVI will be released for PS5 and PC. No release window has been shared, and the PS5 console feature has been explicitly declared temporary.
