The move will put Bell under the same corporate umbrella as Colorado-based New Belgium Brewery, which was sold to Lion in 2019.

“That decision ultimately came down to two specific factors,” Bell said. in the current situation. “First, the people of New Belgium share our unwavering commitment to the craft of brewing and the community-first way to build our business. Second, it was the right time. I’ve been doing this for over 36 years, and recently battled some serious health issues. I want everyone who loves these to know A company like me has found a partner who truly appreciates our great beer, our culture, and the importance of our roots here in Michigan.”

The transaction price has not been disclosed, and no major changes or layoffs are expected at this time. “Beer drinkers should not expect any changes to existing Bell beer,” the company added.

Bell Executive Vice President Carrie Juncker will continue to lead day-to-day operations, reporting to New Belgium CEO Steve Fechheimer.

“At Beals, we see a group of like-minded people dedicated to making the best beer in the world – and doing business in a way that improves the well-being of the people that underpins our success,” Fechheimer said in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier to welcome the entire Bale team.”

Bell’s is famous for its Two Hearted IPA, which was named in the year 2020 Best beer in America for the fourth year in a row by the American Beer Association by Zymurgy Magazine. This same poll ranked Bell’s Hopslam as the 5th best beer in the world, and ranked Bell’s as the best brewery in America.

After enjoying years of boom and rapid expansion in the late 2000s, the craft beer industry has declined sharply over the past decade, suffering from saturated markets, slowing sales and competition from hard brews. Lion bought a new Belgiummaker of Fat Tire, Inc., for nearly two years for an undisclosed price, and Sapporo Holdings Ltd.
