Excitement builds at Gillette Stadium ahead of Tom Brady’s return – CBS Boston
FOXBORO (CBS) – Fans are starting to descend on Foxboro on Friday, preparing for Sunday night’s historic game between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“It’s almost like Bobby Orr, David Ortiz, Larry Bird and if they play away and come back here,” said Patriots fan Larry Trust, wearing a Brady jersey.
Inside the pro shop at Gillette Stadium, excitement over Tom Brady’s return has drawn fans from outside New England.
Ben Smith, a Patriots fan, of Pennsylvania, said his wife bought him tickets for the game as a birthday and Christmas present.
“I’ve always been really forced into this Brady story. You know, here’s this guy who doesn’t think he’s going to win,” Smith said from the bench.
Andrew Robinson bought his tickets last year and traveled all the way from Texas. He said his love for the Patriots has a lot to do with Brady’s legacy.
“I saw him win Super Bowl 49 with Malcolm Butler objecting, and the love has been going and going ever since,” Robinson said.
However, not all fans are ready to root TB12.
“Rise up against the Bates? You know you have to pick a side and I’ll go with the Bates on that side,” said fan John Aker.
Whatever the outcome of the match, Gillette is ready to roar on Sunday.
“When I walked into the store today, I just got, say, the shivers because I’m so excited. The energy is going to be pretty wild,” said Sabrina Foucault, the fan.
