Everton winger Andros Townsend was excited to play alongside their ‘cool’ summer signing
Everton winger Andros Townsend is looking forward to playing with newcomer Solomon Rondon, who he believes is a “fantastic addition” to the squad.
Townsend was one of the Rafa BenitezThe first signings with Everton as manager this summer. He joined the club on a free transfer after his contract at Crystal Palace expired in July.
Rondon joined the winger at the club on deadline day. The striker previously played in the Premier League with Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion.
Rondon joins Everton on a free transfer from Chinese side Dalian Professional.
“I’ve played against him a few times and he’s a very physical player, very strong, loves the physical side of him, likes to go into confrontation with defenders and can carry the ball well, so this will be a great addition to the team.
“Whether it’s playing with Dom up front or coming off the bench, the manager sees it, it would definitely be a plus for a player like me who loves to play inside the penalty area.”
Elsewhere, Moise Kean left Everton as he returned to Juventus. The Toffees are set to turn a profit for the striker, having signed them for £23.5m in 2019.
The striker’s deal could rise to £32.5m including additions. Alex MacLeish praised Everton for completing this deal:
“It’s unbelievable work. I’ve looked at the ins and outs of Chelsea over the past few years. Their sums also pile up with people who come and go.
“That’s exactly what we’re seeing here. It’s good work from the people on the infrastructure. That’s what you need to run a football club at the highest level.
“Over the last two or three seasons, we’ve seen clubs like Fulham spend £150m and still get relegated. Sheffield United have been the same.
“The strategy of these clubs we are talking about looks really good.”
