Donald Trump: Secret Action Taken to Prevent President ‘Scream’ Using Nuclear Weapons, According to New Book | UK news
The top US military officer took covert action to limit former President Donald Trump’s ability to launch a military strike or deploy nuclear weapons, according to a new book.
It’s among a number of explosive claims from the authors of The Peril – a book by Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.
They wrote that General Milley was deeply disturbed by the attack on the Capitol and “was sure that Trump had entered a dangerous mental decline in the aftermath of the election, as Trump was now a maniac, yelling at officials and constructing his alternate reality around endless electoral conspiracies.” .
And according to CNN: “You never know what the president’s starting point is.”
In a bold move, the senior military officer called a secret meeting in his Pentagon office on January 8 to review military action launches and nuclear weapons.
He allegedly told officials in the Pentagon’s war room, the center of national military command, not to take any orders unless he was involved.
“No matter what you are told, you do the action. You do the operation. I am part of that action,” General Milley told the officials.
“I got you?” Ask according to the book.
Officials were said to have responded with “Yes, sir” and the authors wrote that General Milley “considered it an oath.”
The Washington Post published details of the book, which will be released on September 21, for the first time on Tuesday.
It is based on more than 200 interviews with participants and witnesses to the events covered, giving insight into Mr.
General Milley’s fear of what Trump might do in the final weeks of his presidency led him to twice call his Chinese counterpart, General Li Zuqing, to assure him that the two countries would not suddenly go to war.
“General Lee, I want to assure you that the US government is stable and that everything will be fine,” General Milley told him on the first call on October 30, 2020, according to the book. “We will not attack you and we will not perform any kinetic operations.”
General Milley reportedly said, “If we’re going to attack, I’ll call you early. It won’t be a surprise.”
The second call was on January 8, 2021, just two days after supporters of the outgoing president rebelled at the US Capitol.
Trump has said that General Milley should be prosecuted for treason if the report is true.
The book also examines Joe Biden’s decision to run for office again and examines the first six months of his presidency – and why he lobbied so hard to withdraw from Afghanistan. He also discusses how he really feels about Mr. Trump.
