CUPERTINO (CBSSF) – Flames and thick smoke billowed from a house in Cupertino early Monday morning, killing a resident whose body was found in the hallway, authorities said.
Mike Mathiesen, battalion chief of the Santa Clara County Fire Department, said fire crews responded to reports of a house fire in Building 1000 on Tuscany Place at about 4:20 a.m.

The incoming crews detected smoke rising from the ceiling and flames on the first floor. A second alarm was quickly called to bring additional resources to the scene.

Firefighters entered the house and discovered the man’s body. It has not been released in his name. Two other residents managed to escape safely from the flames. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was brought under control at 6:22 a.m. and the cause is still under investigation.
