Cowboys dominate rival Eastern Eagles at NFC 41-21 – CBS Dallas/Fort Worth

Arlington, Texas (CBSDFW.COM/AP) Dak Prescott threw three times in his first home game since sustaining an ankle injury on the same field nearly a year ago, and Trevon Diggs returned a 59-yard interception for a score and the Dallas Cowboys dominated the Philadelphia Eagles 41-21 on Monday night, September 27.

Ezekiel Elliott ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns, and a tight finish Dalton Schultz fought for the first double of his career.

Except for a stumble in the end zone that gave the Eagles (1-2) their first touchdown, Prescott was instrumental, going 21 of 26 for 238 yards without interception in the first NFC East game for both teams.

Prescott’s first game on AT&T since the compound fracture at the end of the season and dislocated his right ankle in week five last year against the New York Giants was also a return to full capacity, with 93,267 inside and the retractable roof open at the $1.2 billion facility.

The Cowboys (2-1) had topped 19-1 on their first touchdown at the end of the first half, but the Eagles only fell 20-7 in the first half. After Javon Hargrave forced Prescott’s confusion and picked up the ball to score, the Eagles stuffed QB into a fourth offside down at the other end.

Diggs boarded a pass from Hurts to the sideline in the third play of the second half and ran untouched for his first career TD while becoming the first Dallas player with a pick in each of the first three games since Everson Walls in 1985.

Diggs and Cincinnati’s Logan Wilson co-lead the NFL with three interceptions.

Hurts completed 41 yards for Quez Watkins, 38 yards for Dallas Goedert’s court finish and 27 yards for tight end Zach Ertz while he finished 25 of 39 for 326 yards with two TDs and two interceptions. Lots of passing yards for a Texas native, a second TD, came with the game out of reach.

Prescott put a 19-yard touchdown pass to Schultz for the Cowboys forever at 14-7 late in the first quarter, and a 2-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Wilson in fourth essentially put the game at 34-14 early in the fourth.

Any doubt was erased when rookies Mika Parsons and Osa Odigizwa shared a sack of pain in a desperate bid for fourth and ninth in the middle of the fourth quarter. Odighizuwa received his first break in the first half, dropping Hurts for an 11-yard loss.

Schultz, who led Dallas with 80 yards, scored again for 22 yards in the fourth quarter.

Hall of Fame episodes

Jimmy Johnson, who coached the Cowboys to a pair of Super Bowl titles in the 1990s, made a rare appearance on their court when his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring was presented in the first half along with safety Cliff Harris and receiver Drew Pearson. All three enlisted this summer.

Johnson began his speech by thanking owner Jerry Jones and ended the famous speech he first yelled after winning an NFC Championship game over San Francisco during the 1992 season: “How” the Cowboys face them! Johnson and Jones split sharply after another Super Bowl title to end the 1993 season. The two hugged before Jones put the ring on Johnson.
