SLP says Omicron is a ‘wake-up call’
SLP health spokeswoman Jackie Bailey described the discovery of the omicron covid variant as a “wake-up call”.
“The confirmation of cases of this new species in Scotland is a wake-up call,” she said today.
“We don’t yet know the true scale of the risks posed by the Omicron variant, but the Scottish government must urge action.
“Test and Protect has experienced months of low expectations, as many attempts to trace contacts have simply been abandoned.
“More than 800,000 Scots are entitled to a booster dose but have not received it.
“Ventilation in many schools is still substandard – children are only required to open a window.
“The government was right to remind everyone that we can all play our part in containing the spread by following the rules and acting with caution.
“But increased rates of vaccination, contact tracing and testing are the real path to safety in this final phase of the pandemic.”
