Working as Pizza China’s chief operating officer in Vietnam, Taku Tanka saw how difficult it was for restaurants to reach out to farmers. Many small F&B businesses cannot buy large quantities, so they rely on nearby markets or multiple suppliers that sell only one category. And, in turn, it means that farmers are disconnected from the end users of their produce, making it difficult to predict selling prices or plan their crops. To address these issues, Tanaka founded the Camero, B2B platform, with its warehouse and last-minute delivery network.
Based in Ho Chi Minh City, the company announced today that it has partnered with Food Collective CPF Group, Quest Ventures and Genesia Ventures. 4.6 million has been collected. Capital will be used to hire next year, a new warehouse management system, user interface upgrades and expansion in Hanoi.
Prior to founding Camaro in 2018, Tanaka Pizza was the COO of 4PPs, which grew from a place in Ho Chi Minh City when it joined 10 stores three years later (now it has 30 in Vietnam). There are more places than).
Camaro works with about 15 farmers, including cooperatives, and serves more than 400 active customers, ranging from family-owned restaurants to chains ranging from more than 20 locations. Despite transport restrictions and temporary business closures related to the Cove 19, Camero says it has grown by 15% every month over the past 12 months. It currently has about 100 employees.
F&B businesses use the platform to get orders from multiple farmers. Camaro handles supplier negotiation, order processing and management, and completion. Tanaka told TechCrunch that the company operates its warehouses and last-minute delivery network because it is cheaper than working with third-party providers.
Most of Cameroon’s final deliveries are by motorbike, as there are many minor roads in Vietnam that do not have access to trucks. One problem, Tanaka said, is how many items can be delivered in one trip. Because drivers need to make multiple trips each day, Camaro plans to expand its micro-warehouse network in Ho Chi Minh City so they don’t have to travel long distances. Its tech team is also developing an internal system to manage inventory, completion and final mail delivery with the goal of minimizing variable costs.
