“Buy it again!” Chelsea fans can’t believe what Marina Granovskaya did after a £18m deal
Chelsea have announced the departure of centre-back Marc Guehy, confirming he will join Crystal Palace on a five-year deal.
The centre-back has been bolstered to find his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge this season after such an excellent campaign at Liberty Stadium last season, which nearly saw Swansea return to the Premier League.
However, just a week after reporting the start of pre-season, Juehi left, joining Palace on a long-term contract.
Upon completing his move to Selhurst Park, the defender told Pallas club site : “I am very excited. It is a great opportunity for me to come to such a big club in the Premier League. I am really excited to go.
“I think it was the direction the club took, and it’s a really exciting direction with the new coach that has come in. There are a lot of good young players here and obviously this stable club with the best players really attracted me and made me want to come here.
“[Patrick Vieira] He speaks for himself. The player he has been, the way he behaves, and even more recently as a manager, he has a really good track record. When he was in Nice he did some really good work there and I’m really excited to work with him.”
Although Guehy’s move to Palace would give him a greater chance of achieving first-team football, many Chelsea fans were slightly disappointed by the Blues’ decision to penalize his exit, with some hoping that a buy-back clause would be included in the deal.

As you can see from the messages above, many Chelsea fans were frustrated by Gue’s exit, feeling he could become a standout player at Stamford Bridge and become a mainstay in the squad in the coming years.
Given how well he did at Swansea last season, a fee of around £18m seems like a crack job from a Palace perspective. However, the same can also be said of Chelsea, where Guehy only played twice for the club at first-team level.
Guehi could make his competitive debut for Palace against his old club when the two teams meet on the opening day of the 2021/22 Premier League season next month.
