Minneapolis (WCCO) One person was killed and more than a dozen others were injured after a shootout in a bar at 200 block on West Seventh Street in St. Paul.
The shooting began after midnight early Sunday morning at Seventh Street Truck Park. Police said several 911 callers “frantically called for help” moments after the attack.
A woman who police said was in her twenties died. Another 14 people were taken to area hospitals for treatment. All of them are expected to survive.
“I can only describe it as hellish,” said St. Paul Police spokesman Steve Linders. “I think of the young woman who died. One minute she was having a good time, the next minute she was lying in the arms of her friends trying to save her life, but it didn’t work out. I can’t think of anything worse.”
Good Samaritans worked with the police to help the victims while paramedics arrived at the scene.
Police said in the early hours of Sunday morning that no suspects had been arrested, but initial information indicated that there were a number of shooters. The motive has not yet been determined.
“My heart goes out to the woman who was murdered, her loved ones and everyone who was at that bar this morning,” said St Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell. “In an instant, they find themselves stuck in a hellish situation. I want them to know we have the best detectives in the country, and we won’t stop until we find those responsible for this madness. We’ll do our part to hold them accountable.”
Police would like anyone with information about the shooting to contact 651-266-5650.
Investigators have not yet publicly identified the woman who died. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office will perform an autopsy and issue her name and cause of death.

“Our society has been devastated by the shocking scenes from last night,” Carter said. “As our St. Paul officers work to put those responsible for these foolish acts into custody, our work to build more proactive and comprehensive public safety strategies is more urgent than ever.
