Beyoncé is ‘angry and disappointed’ after claiming the £22.9m diamond she wore in a new campaign for Tiffany & Co.

The 39-year-old star appeared alongside her husband Jay Z In new ads for luxury jeweler, and Beyonce He can be seen wearing the 128-carat Tiffany Diamond watch in the photos.

She became the fourth person to ever wear the coveted gem, after social activist Mary Whitehouse wore it in 1957, followed by Audrey Hepburn in 1961, and most recently, Lady Gaga wore the necklace at the Academy Awards in 2019.

However, it was reported that the diamonds were actually drilled from the Kimberley Mine at Beers in colonial South Africa in 1877 by low-paid black workers.

Atrocious working conditions, along with cramped working conditions, often caused fatal accidents at the mine, and in just two years more than 1,100 workers died from diseases such as pneumonia and scurvy.

The diamond was sold by the owner of the mine to Charles Tiffany in 1879, and critics pointed out that the gem was a blood diamond, meaning it was mined to fund war, violence, or illegal activity.

It is said that Beyoncé is now angry that the diamond’s date has not been verified, and she is upset that she was not told of Tiffany Diamond’s date.

Beyoncé is aware of the criticism and is disappointed and angry that she was not aware of the questions about her date.

A source close to the star told The Sun, “I thought all the final details were checked, but now I realize the diamond itself has been overlooked.”

Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, was forced to stand up for her daughter in an enthusiastic social media post, summoning them for not checking the provenance of their jewelry.

“How many of you socially conscious activists own diamonds? Did you check to see where the diamonds came from? Probably not!”

“So when you guys are engaged, you won’t have a diamond to put on a sterling silver bracelet. And you better check its provenance and origin and why you’re adding it Check out the calls for the leather I was weird because they made it from another country to ban diamonds and not buy it right because you are the righteous!” (sic)” Tina fired.

As part of the Beyoncé and Jay-Z deal starting with the About Love campaign, Tiffany has promised to donate $1.5 million to scholarship programs at historically black colleges and universities in the United States.

Beyoncé’s fans also jumped to her defense, pointing out that Lady Gaga was not criticized for wearing the controversial diamond to the Academy Awards in 2019.

“Beyoncé wore a necklace and everyone lost their powers. But Beyoncé isn’t the first celebrity to partner with Tiffany nor the first to wear Tiffany’s Yellow Diamond. So why the outrage?” another tweeted.

Writer Zoe Samoudzi also defended Beyoncé, saying that her accomplishments should outweigh the controversy.

Tiffany set Beyoncé in a diamond—“discovered” in a colonial mine in Kimberley in 1877—that a black woman had never worn in a never-before-seen advertisement by Basquiat, then pledged $2 million in scholarships and internships to HBCUs.
