Battlefield 2042 design chief leaves dice amid heavy business rumors in studio

Battlefield 2042 did not start as planned, with widespread complaints about bugs, balance problems, and general Polish deficiencies. According to Tom Henderson internally, DICE’s head of design, Fawzi Mesmar, is jumping on the bandwagon immediately after the release of Battlefield 2042. Mesmar worked at Mobile Developer King before taking over the 80-dev-strong DICE design team in 2019. For the team members, Mesmar had been planning his departure for a while, but was determined to get 2042 out the door. Apparently, he’s not going anywhere to end it.

Separately on TwitterHenderson pointed out that DICE is currently in heavy business, with the need to hire talented talent for a new studio.

Hopefully, this behind-the-scenes uproar won’t dampen efforts to get Battlefield 2042 back on track, but I’m guessing it will have some effect. It’s one thing to clean up your mess, it’s much more difficult to clean up the mess left to you by others.

Battlefield 2042 is now available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, and PS5. The latest update of the game was dropped today (you can find the details of its contents here).
