The Boston resident’s endorsement of US Representative Michelle Wu has signed Ayanna Presley for her mayoral campaign.
“At this pivotal moment in our city’s history, we need bold leadership – and that’s why I’m so proud to endorse Michelle’s candidacy for mayor,” Presley said in a statement Friday. “I look forward to continuing to work alongside her to address the entrenched challenges of racial, social, economic, healthcare and environmental injustices facing our communities.”
Presley was the first black woman to be elected to the Boston City Council, a body she served on for a decade before being elected to Congress in 2018. She and Wu mingled with two of the four city council members from 2014 until then. Wu chose instead of Anisa Al-Seibi – George – another senior council member who had interfered with the couple on that body starting in 2016.
Presley became known nationally as a member of the “Squad,” a group of hard-line left-wing congressmen.
