As the Major League Soccer kicks off, ABC13 questioned fans about names from Massachusetts and the Houston area. Astros fans were asked to pronounce five Massachusetts places.
The names were Worcester, Gloucester, Chicopee, Leominster and Tewksbury.
“I think they might be special for them,” said Eva Loredo, an Astros fan.
Astros lovers studied, and stared at the names, but each had difficulties with pronunciation.
“They’re kind of unusual,” said Rebecca Sotes, an Astros fan.
“Yeah, I’d agree with that too,” added Mike Souts, an Astros fan.
ABC 13 also questioned Red Sox fans, asking them to pronounce Humble, Bexar County, Alief and Kuykendahl Road.
“You have crazy names here,” said John Gallo, a Red Sox fan.
But like Houston, some Boston fans also struggled to pronounce each name correctly.
Cal Polley, a Red Sox fan, explained that the movie “X.” “I don’t know where this comes from.”
Red Sox fans who moved to the Houston area knew how to pronounce two of the names correctly.
“I know humble,” Red Sox fan Brian Buckmel explained. “That was the first thing they taught me when I moved to Texas.”
The names are left to fans’ tongues, but for Astros fans hoping the only name they get at the end of the series is “Winner.”
