As winter break approaches, teachers are calling for caution before removing mandates in schools

Buffalo, NY (WIVB) – The Buffalo Teachers Union is asking local leaders to exercise caution before removing any COVID-related mandates in schools.

With midwinter break from February 21 to 28 for many Buffalo schools, teachers are concerned that there will be a significant increase in positive cases in that time period, noting that it has occurred before. They say if the mandates are lifted, unmasked staff and students may be at risk of contracting COVID from those who go back to school with it.

The BTF is also calling for an investigation and analysis at the federal, state and county levels into the statistics on where COVID has spread, assuring leaders that it can spread in schools.
