Anne Marie and Moira Stewart confirmed that they are competing in Strictly Come Dancing for Christmas

Anne Marie and Moira Stewart have been confirmed as celebrity contestants for Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special.

The 30-year-old singer and 72-year-old news anchor are the latest names confirmed for the one-off festive episode — with another announcement.

The duo will compete against former Bake Off presenter Mel Gidruik, Fred Sirix of First Dates, and Jay Blades of The Repair Shop.

Moira, who will be partnered by Aljaz Skorjanec, has an enduring passion for dance and said, ‘I’m really looking forward to the Strictly Christmas special.

She added joyfully: “I have loved dancing as far as I can remember. In fact, it even helped me try to keep warm in the cold water apartment earlier…”

Meanwhile, the Christmas singer is “excited” about the opportunity, especially because she has teamed up with professional dancer Graziano di Prima.

She said: ‘I’m excited to be part of the Strictly Christmas Special. I love the show and who would refuse to dance with Graziano?! “

Mel was the third celebrity contestant confirmed for the festive batch of the ballroom competition.

The former Bake Off presenter, 53, was announced on Tuesday as the latest star to join the lineup.

Mel who will dance with Neil Jones, on participating in the one-off special: “I don’t think I’ve been excited about this Christmas since I got my first guinea pig from Santa in 1978.”

Mel is best known for co-hosting seven series of The Great British Bake Off and starring in the Sky Hitmen series.

She has also presented the BBC’s Kids in Need, Let It Shine and Eurovision – You Decide.

Fred and Jay were the first stars to be announced on Monday’s episode of take two.

The First Dates maître d’, 49, and Repair Shop star, 51, are the first celebrities to be revealed at the upcoming festive show.

It will see six pairs take to the floor for a seasonal routine in an effort to impress the judges Craig Revell HorwoodAnd Mutsi MabusAnd Anton de Beck and Shirley Palace.

The coronavirus pandemic means there has been no Christmas special in 2020, but since 2014, holiday episodes have seen former contestants compete head-to-head.

In 2019, Series 15 runner-up Debbie McGee won with Kevin Clifton, while in 2018, Aton Merigold – who also ran in Series 15 – won with Janet Manara.

Strictly’s Christmas Special will air on BBC One on December 25.
